Easy, easy! You don't have to give me an answer. I'm asking you this question so that, for a moment, you can put yourself in the shoes of a marketing team.

Marketing teams are using an increasing number of tools and vendors to launch and measure the impact of their campaigns. The biggest problem they face 👉 Separating the signal from the noise.

What will you do?

🤔 How did Octane11 come about?

It may seem incredible to you, but Octane11's origins date back to just 2019. It was born out of the hustle and bustle of the "big apple" (That's right! It's a New York startup) as a spin-off from the MediaMath group.

Nowadays, and despite the little time that has passed since then, more than 20 professionals are already part of Octane11.

🦄 What do they do that is so successful?

Octane11 did something very important (and very valuable) from the beginning. It was to listen to their audience. An audience made of a huge number of marketing and communication teams that use an increasing number of tools to create, launch and analyse their campaigns. In short... a titanic job that is increasingly unmanageable and, most dangerously, increasingly difficult to measure and justify.

William Thomson (whoever he was) once said - "What is not defined cannot be measured. What is not measured cannot be improved. What is not improved is always degraded".

The Octane11 team is all about measuring and improving so that nothing in B2B marketing teams ever degrades. The product they have developed not only allows them to analyze and track the activity of all of their marketing activities across all of their martech tools (email, ads, social, webinars, chatbots, etc) from a single place; it also allows them to measure the impact they are having, the level of resources they are consuming and the return they are generating in real time. Mind-blowing!

🦾 What will be your mission?

You will collaborate with the engineering team to develop new functionality, and improve and maintain the entire software product. You will become a technical lead.

The solution they have built is 100% data-driven and data-oriented. Octane11 needs an experienced person with initiative and leadership skills. The 3 axes on which you will focus your work will be:

  • Development of new functionality.
  • Building a scalable platform.
  • Automating and facilitating maintenance.

In 1 month

In this first month, you’ll be learning and absorbing 🧽

At the end of this month, you'll be perfectly integrated into the team's work dynamics, you'll know the project, you'll understand the IT solution you'll help build, and... (drum roll) you'll have completed your first deploy!

Your responsibilities

  • Participate in decision-making.

  • Exercise technical leadership within the development team.

  • Take control of the software product oriented to data handling and processing.

  • Implement new functionalities, and maintain and improve those that are already working.

  • Have and know how to implement very good testing standards and good software development practices.

  • You will be working in an international environment, so you will need to be fluent in English (spoken and written).

  • Collaborate with BI Analysts, Product and Sales team members to translate business requirements into new and improved data models.

  • Design and implement fault-tolerant, resilient ELT/ETL pipelines from a wide range of data sources.

How will you do it?

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team full of enthusiasm and talent. The idea is that when you look left and right, you see those people with whom you'd be willing to rock! 🤟

To give you a more tangible idea of your team, pay attention to the following recipe:

  • The data team currently consists of 3 people.
  • Soon (as soon as you join) there will be 4 and there are also plans to add a new member in New York for an Analytics Engineer role.
  • The counter is at 5, but we still have to add 4 more colleagues in the engineering team to complete the Octane11 development team.

You will work organized in 2 overall engineering squads, Data (the one you will join 🙌) and Platform (the other one), under an agile framework based on SCRUM. Both squads will share the same sprint (two weeks long), but will have independent backlogs.

Since there is no Octane11 subsidiary in Spain, the hiring mode for this position will be as a contractor.

Communication is as fluid and transparent as you can imagine. In addition to demos, dailies and retrospectives, they also have a ceremony every Monday to align values and culture. In this space, anyone can take the mic!

When will you work?

The working day is very flexible. The aim is that you can adapt it to your own taste.

The headquarters are in NYC, so they tend to overlap when possible. Here you have the common shared hours:

  • From 14:00 to 18:00 in the Canary Islands.
  • From 15:00 to 19:00 h on the Peninsula.

This position is 100% remote, so as long as you have a good internet connection, you can work from wherever you want (within Spain).

Most of the team in Spain works from the Canary Islands. You might want to work from Tenerife. Who knows? ☀️🏄

He enjoys removing blockers and enabling others to give out their maximum potential to reach a common objective.

Harsha Madhwani (Senior Analytics Engineer): data enthusiast with 6+ years of experience in business intelligence, ETL, reporting solutions and software engineering. Passionate to transforming data into valuable insights and providing solutions that help drive business growth.

TJ Perrin (Head of Product & Marketing Operations): customer-centric marketer with nine years of experience in the field, and over five years of international experience in marketing, digital transformation, product launches, demand generation, campaign management, marketing strategy, customer intelligence, analytics, and business development.

What are they asking for?

  • At least 4 years of experience in a Data Engineer or Software Engineer role.
  • Good command of Python.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Ability to implement very good testing standards and good software development practices.
  • Experience in cloud environments, ideally GCP.
  • Ability to guide and mentor people at a technical level.

📈 You will receive part of your remuneration in company’ stock options. These shares vest over 4 years. You will receive 25% when you complete your first year at Octane11.

💸 You will receive an annual bonus up to 10% of your salary. It will be paid every 6-month period.

What the FAQ?

No. They can only hire people within Spain.

The selection process will consist of the following phases:

  1. At the very beginning, you’ll have a couple of interviews. The first one will be with Dan (CEO, based in New York City), who will validate your English fluency and cultural fit; the next one will be with Javier (Head of Engineering, based in Tenerife), he will do the same exercise from a technical perspective.
  2. Next step will be a small asynchronous code assessment. It is VERY simple and its aim is to validate your coding and testing skills.
  3. Finally, there will be a code review of your assignment. You’ll also be invited to talk to people from the engineering and product team.
