Would you like to ensure the quality of a system that literally saves lives?

DEHN is an international company with over a century of history. Originally focused on protection against lightning and electrical surges, DEHN has evolved to develop both hardware and software solutions that prevent damage, save lives, and now embrace the digital world with cloud and IoT systems.

As they continue to expand their operations in Spain, they are building a brand new engineering team and tech hub and they are looking for a Software Quality Engineer to ensure the stability and quality of their web-based IoT solution connected to their Lightning Strike Sensors. If you're passionate about quality, testing, and teamwork, keep reading!

¿Qué harás?

DEHN is a German company with over a century of history 😮. They were born creating protections for lightning and electrical surges, and over the years they have evolved towards hardware and software related to this same field. Their devices and software are responsible for preventing electrical surges and hazards ⚡.

It is an international company, with more than 2000 employees all over the world, and they have more than 20 offices in different countries, including Spain, where their subsidiary is DEHN Ibérica.

If you want to know the history of a company with more than a century of history, they have a very cool timeline on their website.

If you notice, one of their latest milestones on this timeline is the appointment of their CTO, Christian Höhler in 2020. Which shows the dimension that technology has in this stage of the company, where software is essential.

In addition, in 2021 the DEHN digital solutions GmbH came to life and their role is to support the digital transformation of DEHN. Their mission statement is “We enable DEHN to shape its leadership in the digital future”. They do this by showing & encouraging global collaboration without boundaries in an agile way. While f_ostering a data driven culture, a customer oriented mindset and automated processes_ and building great customer software, digital services and smart solutions.

They have hundreds of internal and external applications. From their own patented software that helps them measure thousands of environmental data, to electrical control software that saves lives, to their management applications. A company with such a history also has a very broad technological history.

The Spanish delegation has grown a lot in recent years, and it is also a strategic point for their logistics. That is why they have thought about establishing a technological operations center, a HUB, in Madrid. They have started with some operations personnel, but their intention is to create a team of 30-40 people in the coming years.

They are having problems stabilizing the infrastructure due to the accelerated growth of recent years, in addition to wanting to create new software that replaces old applications and helps them automate many actions.

The main challenge is to join and contribute to a cross-functional team working on a critical IoT system that combines cloud software with real-world hardware specifically, lightning strike sensors that help prevent damage and save lives. As a QA Engineer, your mission will be to ensure the quality and reliability of this complex and life-impacting system.

You’ll be embedded in an agile SCRUM team alongside a Product Owner, Developers, DevOps, a Scrum Master and a Solution Architect. Together, you'll support DEHN's digital transition and contribute to a broader 7-year technology strategy aimed at unifying, refactoring, and modernizing their vast software landscape—built over decades across multiple platforms, languages, and use cases.

But DEHN’s goal is to internalize these efforts by building a solid in-house team in Spain. You’ll be among the first QA Engineers to shape this new phase, collaborating closely with other roles such as Frontend, Fullstack, and Cloud Engineers.

In this role, you'll take ownership of defining and implementing manual and automated tests, especially in environments where real-world IoT devices interact with cloud-based systems. You’ll help stabilize the infrastructure, reduce downtime, and automate where it makes sense all while making sure software meets high quality standards.

This is a rare opportunity to join a growing tech team inside a century-old company with real purpose. You won’t just write test cases you’ll help define how the team builds, tests, and delivers reliable software across borders and disciplines. Are you ready to be part of something that matters?

As a QA Engineer, you will undergo a comprehensive onboarding process, gaining a deep understanding of the business and familiarizing yourself with the architecture and development ecosystem's Quality.

By the time you are settled in, you will be well-acquainted with the majority of the main subproducts and have a clear understanding of whom to approach for any queries or assistance.

In your role as a key member of the Dehn engineering team, you will play a crucial part in outlining the plan for the next 12 months, focusing on areas that require immediate improvement and Quality.

Tus responsabilidades

  • Test Strategy and Planning: Analyze software products and create comprehensive concepts for manual and automated tests to ensure complete functionality of the application.

  • Manual and Automated Testing: Maintain and update manual and automated test cases throughout ongoing development, continuously improving testing activities, with a focus on automated API and E2E tests using Cypress.

  • Cross-Browser and Cross-Platform Testing: Test software products on different browsers and operating systems, documenting results in test management tools like Jira/Xray.

  • Quality Assurance and Consultation: Act as a quality consultant within the SCRUM team, evaluating automated test results, communicating improvements, creating new bug tickets, and adapting existing test cases.

  • Test Management and Documentation: Conduct thorough analysis of test plan results, providing recommendations to the product team, and ensure detailed documentation of test cases, test runs, and test results.

¿Cómo lo harás?

The Software Team (where QA is fully embedded) is growing fast. While DEHN is a long-established company, they are now building a modern tech hub in Spain, designed to work side by side with their existing team in Germany. The goal? To create a European reference team that brings together the best of DEHN’s hardware legacy with cutting-edge software and IoT development.

Though the Spanish software teams are still small, you won't be alone. There’s strong international collaboration with engineers, architects and product leaders across multiple countries. You’ll be working as part of a tight-knit, cross-functional team, with high impact and ownership from day one.

There’s a lot of groundwork already laid—years of development and various internal tools built across different platforms. But now is the time to standardize, modernize and scale. You’ll help give shape and structure to this evolution, ensuring quality throughout the process. On the backend, they mostly work with Java + Spring Boot, Kafka, and cloud infrastructure. Frontend tech includes TypeScript, Node.js, Vue.js, Angular, and Tailwind CSS and they’re open to unifying the stack once the team matures.

DEHN values small, autonomous teams that promote ownership, agile thinking, and continuous improvement. You’ll benefit from the stability of a global company with solid financial backing, while enjoying the culture of a modern, product-first tech environment. It’s a rare mix of maturity and momentum.

¿Cuándo trabajarás?

The work schedule offers flexibility, and you will have the responsibility of making decisions in this regard. The engineering team operates with a self-organized working day, as they strongly believe it promotes asynchronous and autonomous work, which is particularly beneficial considering the team's anticipated growth in the short to medium term. Get ready to soar to new heights!  🛫.

You have the flexibility to work from wherever you prefer, especially if you have a subscription to an airline that Dehn is already partnered with. Currently, the technical team primarily operates in a fully remote setup 🌴, but you also have the option to work from the office in Madrid whenever you choose.

Dehn initially started as a fully remote company, and while they want their tech team to be based in Spain, they strongly value the benefits of remote work and work-life balance. This means that you may have colleagues located in various cities such as Madrid, Salamanca, Valencia, or Majorca :)

Additionally, Dehn plans to organize periodic in-person meetings at selected locations, providing opportunities for face-to-face interactions. These gatherings aim to complement the virtual work environment and have already proven to be highly successful during their first occurrence.

The first of these meetings was a great success!

¿Con quién trabajarás?

Right now there are more than 20 in the Spanish hub, although it is likely that by the time you join the team there will be a few more. Some of the teammates you will interact are:
